Overview of the FiT
With homes accounting for 27% of the UK's total carbon emissions, the Government has an obligation to cut household emissions by 80% by 2050.
Under the Feed-in Tariff scheme, which came into effect in April 2010, energy suppliers make regular payments to householders or communities who generate their own electricity using micro-CHP systems.
The FiT scheme - also known as Clean Energy Cashback - guarantees a minimum payment for all electricity generated by the Baxi Ecogen - Generation Tariff of 10p/kWh. A separate payment for all electricity exported to the local grid, known as the Export Tariff will be paid at a rate of 3p/kWh. The electricity generated by the Baxi Ecogen will reduce the electricity consumed and will lower the household electricity bill.
